Cupcake Mum and Maggie & Rose are new private members' clubs for London families. Suite 101 paid a visit to see what's on offer, and whether they are worth the cost.

The latest parenting trend is to join a private members' club with your family. You get to relax and be pampered in style while your toddlers are taken care of in the crèche. Cupcake Mum and Maggie & Rose are two such clubs that have recently opened in London and further expansion is on the cards.

Cupcake Mum Private Members' Club

Cupcake Mum opened in Wandsworth, London in April this year. American entrepreneur Karen Hastings came up with the idea after seeing a gap in the market for community-based networking for pregnant women, new mums and their families. This is especially true in big cities like London where everyone is busy and it can be hard to meet new people. "I realised there was nothing that catered to mums in terms of being part of a community and making friends and I wanted to set something up that could do all of these things and that’s where the idea of Cupcake was born," she told The Rich Lady.

What Cupcake Mum Offers

It is a private members’ club and spa for expectant mums, new mums and their families. It’s been described as a heavenly spa – a place to relax and take some valuable "me-time" while your children are looked after in the on-site crèche. It offers various talks, workshops and seminars including antenatal classes, nutrition in pregnancy, advice on starting a business and tips on how to get the most from the workplace as a mum. You can do a mummy boot camp, yoga, first aid and physiotherapy while your toddler enjoys Action, drawing and cookery classes. There's even a Sleep Pod for tired mums in need of a power nap, and a deluxe adult-only spa, which offers signature treatments including pregnancy massage.

How Much Does Cupcake Mum Cost?

There is a membership fee of £125 and a monthly fee of £125, which includes all classes and workshops. As with any gym, the more you use it the more value you will get from it. It’s more of a lifestyle option than a gym and the social/community aspect means you’ll be spending quite a bit of time there with like-minded mums and dads. If you’re looking for a home-from-home, want to network and have the money to spare, why not?

Maggie & Rose

Maggie & Rose is a private members’ club in Kensington, London. It’s more geared towards children (there are Halloween activities and event listings on the website). It aims to provide a "home away from home" and the annual family membership fee (£500) includes 7-day access, a free soft play area for kids, classes and space for party hire.

Local playgroups across the UK provide similar classes for less money but if you’re a working parent based nearby, and want to meet like-minded people, members' clubs like this will bring you a lot of pleasure. If the trend takes off expect to see more organisations like this around the UK.
