Make sure the entire family is ready for the winter weather season. Use these helpful tips to get everyone ready for the upcoming colder weather and winter holidays.

As the cold weather season approaches it can be very helpful to think ahead and do some planning. Fall and winter seasons often bring with them many things such as cold and flu season, traveling in bad weather and the upcoming holidays. Getting the entire family prepared for the upcoming time of year can make many of these things easier to deal with. Here are some ideas today's family can use to help be prepared.

Check Out Clothing & Boots

Now is the time to drag out last year's bin of winter clothing and boots. Make sure everyone has gloves that match, hats, and coats that fit. Try on boots and make a list of what is needed. Take everyone's out grown things to a local thrift store and check for what the family may need there before buying it new. Make sure to write down sizes before heading out!

Stock Up the Medicine Cabinet

Now is also an excellent time to go through the medicine cabinet. Check the dates on medicines and discard any that are out of date. Good things to have on hand for cold and flu season are vitamin C, regular vitamins for children and adults, Vicks Vapor Rub for chest congestion and minor pain reliever. There are natural alternatives to synthetic flu medicines that might be considered. Echinacea is great when flu symptoms hit and can be drank as tea.

Prepare the House For Winter

Go through each room in the house and make a list of what will be needed for weatherizing the room. Windows may need plastic on them, storm windows may need fixed, weather stripping added, etc. Do it all at once and make one trip to the hardware store to get what is needed to finish the job. Then when everything is at hand set a date to actually do it all. Mark it on the calendar and have everyone help.

Prepare for the Holidays

Don't wait until after Thanksgiving to start preparing for Christmas. Do this now – make a list of gifts that still need to be bought and start looking now. Plan the menu, mark dates of things the family wants to do on the calendar. Same thing with Thanksgiving – start now, plan ahead and get the ball rolling!

A Little Planning Goes a Long Way

By carefully and thoughtfully planning ahead for the colder weather and upcoming holidays everyone in the family will be ready to deal with anything that comes up. If sickness occurs the medicine cabinet will be well stocked and everyone will be toasty in warm in a house that is ready too.
